ELK Studios isn’t normally one for the “Book of” genre. However, they’re joining the party with Book of Toro slot. Famous for Wild Toro and Wild Toro 2, ELK is quite possibly poking fun at the numerous Book of games throughout the industry. After all, they’ve inserted their matador character into the role of an Egyptian treasure hunter. The charismatic bull Toro also makes an appearance.

In typical Book of fashion, this game features 5 reels and 10 paylines. Winning combinations occur when 3+ matching symbols appear in a payline.
Book of Toro has a standard Egyptian treasure-hunting look on the surface. It features sarcophaguses, hieroglyphics, and stone pillars in the background.
However, it also has an overly-cartoonish feel, just like the Wild Toro series. The matador-adventurer goes a long way towards lightening the atmosphere and making this game feel original.
Low pays include royals (A-10) with an Egyptian flair. Higher pays consist of a jeweled bird, Eye of Horus, scarab, and matador.
The latter pays the most among this bunch at 250x your stake for five symbols. You can win as much as 10,000x the stake when including features in the mix.
This slot offers three wild symbols. One of them is a regular wild, while the others factor into features that we’ll discuss later.
You can wager between €0.20 and €100 per spin. This betting range creates jackpots beginning at €2,000 (0.2 x 10,000) and going up to €1 million (100 x 10,000).

Book of Toro uses a mixture of special wild symbols, respins, and free spins to boost the win potential. You can also use ELK’s patented X-iter options at any time.
This feature triggers when 2+ mummies land anywhere on the reels. The mummy symbols remain sticky for the ensuing respin.
Any subsequent mummies also become sticky and deliver another respin. The respins continue coming so long as you keep landing new mummies.
Appearing only on reel 5, Toro serves as a walking wild symbol. Upon landing on the grid, he moves one position to the left after each spin.
Toro continues serving as a wild until exiting the screen via reel 1. He also causes a respin every time that he moves one reel to the left.
You trigger this feature when getting Toro and a mummy on the reels at the same time. Toro Goes Wild sees the bull move vertically and then horizontally to run over mummy symbols. He leaves regular wilds behind in each position where he moves.
Toro and the regular wilds aren’t the only wild symbols in this feature. A book icon also serves as a wild and remains sticky until Toro Goes Wild ends.
In addition to acting as a wild, the book is also the scatter. It triggers 10, 15, or 20 free spins when landing three, four, or five times, respectively, anywhere on the grid.
True to other book-style slots, a regular pay is chosen to act as an expanding symbol. Whenever helping to form a win, this chosen symbol expands to cover its respective reel.
Expanding symbols don’t have to be in adjacent reels to offer payouts. Instead, they can appear one or more reels apart and still deliver prizes. For example, you could win with an expanding icon in reels 1, 4, and 5.
You’ll retrigger free spins by getting another 3+ books on the reels. Yet another symbol will be picked to become an expanding symbol. You can benefit from up to 3 expanding icons during the bonus.
Toro can fill in for expanding symbols to complete wins. This is an interesting addition that’s not always seen in Book of games.

Book of Toro does a nice job of balancing between a classic Book of game, like Book of Dead and Book of Ra, and providing some original elements. The Mummy Respins and Toro Goes Wild features add something to this genre. Furthermore, Toro can also substitute for expanding symbols during free spins.
Fans of these slots will appreciate the randomly chosen expanding symbols in the bonus. Expanding icons are a hallmark of book-style slots.
ELK Studios appears to be joining the crowd with a Book of game. In reality, though, it seems to have released this slot ironically.
ELK has cast their two most-famous characters, Toro and matador, as the leads. We can’t see them doing so if they weren’t having some fun with this release.
