Novomatic’s Book of Ra was originally released in 2004. Since then, it has become one of the most-famous online slots of all time.
Novomatic has capitalized on this success by releasing Book of Ra Deluxe. This Egyptian treasure-hunting game doesn’t appear much different than the original at first glance. However, it does have some upgrades, which we’ll cover in this Book of Ra Deluxe review.
The atmosphere is the first major change from the first Book of Ra to the Deluxe version. The first game featured a black outline of pyramids and sands in the distance. While this backdrop may have been acceptable in 2004, it doesn’t measure up to modern slots.
Book of Ra Deluxe offers a more-detailed desert scene. You can actually see palm trees and contours in the sands and pyramids. Furthermore, the reels feature detailed hieroglyphics. The background changes to an Egyptian tomb whenever you unlock free spins.
The sequel also has in-depth animations. Two such animations include a closeup of a sarcophagus and a trip through the pyramid (via Book of Ra). Others include lights flashing around winning icons and spinning icons.
Symbols include the book, treasure hunter, sarcophagus, Isis, scarab, and royals (A through 10). The treasure hunter pays the most at 5,000x your stake for five symbols.
Book of Ra Deluxe features 10 paylines, which is one more line than the original game had. Betting options include the ability to change lines from 1-10 and the coin size from €0.02 to €5.00. Return to player (RTP) for this slot is 95.1%, which is about 3% higher than the regular Book of Ra.
The Book of Ra serves as both the wild symbol and scatter icon. It can substitute for any other symbol to form wins. It also triggers free spins when landing three or more times anywhere on the reels.
The free spins play like normal rounds for the most part. However, one symbol is chosen to serve as an expanding icon. This special symbol only expands if enough matches are present for a win.
