Released in May 2021, Tropicool introduced the idea of an Antartica beach vacation. After the success of Tropicool, ELK Studios is back with a sequel in Tropicool 2. It follows the adventures of Fiona Flamingo and Tony Toucano again, and introduces a new character in Elmo the sloth. This game features a 6x6 grid with 46,656 ways, along with a special Cool Reel at the top. Wins form when 3+ matching symbols land in adjacent reels, beginning with reel 1.
Cascading reels occur after any winning combination, and they remove winning symbols from the board. Symbols from above drop down into these open positions and provide more chances at wins. Cascades continue so long as more winning combinations are possible, and they only end when the wins run out.
Holding up to 18 symbols, the Cool Reel empties its contents onto the reels during cascades. It refills with new symbols following a cascading sequence.
As for the atmosphere, this game once again takes you to the best beaches of Antarctica. You’ll see sand, icecaps, palm trees, and a dock amidst the scenery. A well-decorated tiki bar sits on the right-hand side, which is new to the series. ELK Studios has done well at upgrading the scenery after coming out with a unique topic in the first game.
The lowest-paying symbols include green, orange, purple, and red berries. Mid pays consist of ice-covered coconuts, limes, pineapples, strawberries, and watermelons. The highest-paying of these fruits delivers 3x the stake for six matching icons.
Fiona and Tony are paying scatter symbols, meaning they produce wins without being in adjacent reels. For example, you could land Fiona Flamingo in reels 2, 4, and 5 and still get a prize. Tony’s and Fiona’s payouts vary based on the size of their respective symbols (1x1 or 1x2).
Tropicool 2 offers a maximum win worth 25,000x the stake. This payout is quite a bit larger than the Tropicool max win, which is 10,000x.

Sometimes enough big and special icons prevent a big symbol from fully landing on the reels. In this case, the big symbol breaks apart into 1x1 icons and slides into available positions.
Elmo comes out of the Cool Reel in 1x2 size when possible. If not enough positions are open, though, he’ll initially drop in 1x1 form. He’ll reach the 1x2 size as soon as a position opens above or below him.
Elmo Redrops trigger whenever Elmo chases away bird symbols—leaving behind wild or locked wild symbols in the open spots. Regarding the redrops, Elmo moves one reel to the left after every drop until exiting on the right side. The redrops continue until all instances of this sloth are off the grid.
You’ll trigger 6, 9, 12, or 15 free drops with three, four, five, or six scatters, respectively. This bonus adds the following two additional symbols to the Cool Reel:
Aside from these two additions, free drops also keep locked wilds on the reels after drops. Therefore, you can benefit from each locked wild symbol for the entire bonus.

What started as a fun idea—vacationing in Antarctica—is now a 2-part series. The sequel offers slightly improved modifications to the features and atmosphere. It also boasts an impressive 25,000x max payout, which provides even more incentive to revisit the world’s coldest continent.
The only bad thing we can say is that the 94% RTP is quite low. We felt Tropicool’s 95% payback could be improved, so we’re not sure why ELK went even lower.
Nevertheless, we like Tropicool 2 enough from an overall perspective to recommend it. The features, win potential, and unique atmosphere make for an entertaining slot.
