Taco Brothers Derailed is the third game in ELK Studios’ Taco Brothers franchise. It returns to the fictional Santa Maria, the site of the original game. Only this time, a gold rush is taking place in this small Mexican village. There’s danger abound too, because the evil Captain Diaz is once again out to get the Taco Brothers.

Gameplay

This slot takes place on a 6x4 grid and has 466 Connecting Paylines. With Connecting Paylines, wins form when matching symbols are in adjacent reels, starting with reel 1. The symbols must all be touching/connected in some way whether horizontally or diagonally.

Again, Taco Brothers Derailed happens in the bros’ old stomping grounds of Santa Maria. Along with Senorita, they’re making lots of money selling supplies to eager gold prospectors. But arch nemesis Captain Diaz has plans to thwart their booming business. He wants to steal all of the local gold in the process, while the brothers hope to stop him.

Payouts and Max Win Potential

Regular symbols include maracas, a whistle, cattle skull, lantern, safe, Pico, Pepe, and Paso. The latter offers the most among this bunch at 50x the stake for six matching symbols. This slot pays up to 10,000x your bet when accounting for features.

You trigger Taco Smash N’ Grab when getting 4 bonus icons on the reels. This bonus round is similar to Train Heist, although it’s the upgraded version. Taco Smash N’ Grab puts all three walking wilds on reel 6 simultaneously. It also adds a walking multiplier wild that moves in unison with the brothers.

Captain Diaz loses his powers to arrest the Taco Brothers and always acts as a wild symbol. Meanwhile, Senorita can still send each brother back to reel 6 to reset respins.

Released in 2015, Taco Brothers kicked off this popular series. Featuring 5 reels and 243 ways, this legendary slot introduces the three brothers and Santa Maria. The graphics hold up pretty well for today’s standards, despite this game being older. However, the 1,500x max payout is quite a bit lower than Derailed’s 10,000x win.

The follow-up, Taco Brothers Saving Christmas, dropped the following year in 2016. Another 5-reel, 243-way game, it sees the brothers prevent Captain Diaz from ruining Christmas. This slot has a really fun theme, but it too fails to improve the win potential (1,500x).

Final Verdicts on Taco Brothers Derailed Slot

ELK Studios didn’t have to touch this series for a while due to its success. Many people have played a Taco Brothers game at some point. The low win potential, though, has somewhat dated the first two games.

5,000x the stake has become the new maximum win average over the past few years. With a 10,000x jackpot, Taco Brothers Derailed brings this series into the new age.

Our one complaint is that Derailed only has 95.0% RTP. We’d like to see this payout percentage closer to the 96.0% industry average.

Nevertheless, Taco Brothers Derailed is still a quality game that’s worth trying. It has the features and entertaining theme to keep the series going strong.
