Play’n GO released Raging Rex in early 2019 to much success. Over three years later, this developer is back with a sequel in Raging Rex 2. As discussed in the following review, the aim is a more-featured-filled slot with higher win potential.

Gameplay

Not much has changed regarding gameplay. Just like the original slot, Raging Rex 2 also offers 6 reels (6x4 grid) and 4,096 ways. It sees you form winning combinations in the same manner too, through matching symbols in adjacent reels.

Play’n GO chose not to tinker with the graphics much either. After all, they did a great job with the original Raging Rex’s look and atmosphere. You’ll see more high-quality graphics in the sequel, including realistic dinosaurs and a lush jungle background.

Payouts and Max Win Potential

Symbols include four low-paying fossils, an ankylosaurus, brachiosaurus, pachycephalosaurus, and stegosaurus. The highest-paying dino offers 6x your stake for six symbols. This slot also provides two wild symbols, including a Rex hatchling and Rex itself (discussed later).

You can win up to 30,000x your stake when accounting for features. This maximum payout is much bigger than Raging Rex’s 5,000x the stake win.

You trigger respins when landing a stacked Rex wild on the reels. This wild symbol moves one reel to the left after each respin, until exiting on reel 1. Respins continue, up to a maximum of 5, until the Rex is gone. Hatchling wilds also walk across the reels, either in front of or behind Rex.

Free Spins – 3 Options

The bonus round triggers when 3+ scatter symbols (eggs) land on the reels. You’ll also collect a scatter payout worth 5x (three scatters), 10x (four), 25x (five), or 100x (six) your stake.

After triggering the bonus, you have a choice between the following three options:

• Hatchling Mania – You’ll get 7, 9, 11, or 13 free spins for three, four, five, or six scatter symbols, respectively. Hatchling wilds are sticky and can walk in either direction. How Does This Game Compare to the Original Raging Rex?

As explained earlier, Raging Rex and 2 are almost identical regarding graphics and gameplay. They have similar features to some degree as well. Raging Rex has walking wilds and gives you the choice between 2 types of free spins.

These games mostly just differ in terms of volatility and win potential. Raging Rex has 8/10 volatility and a 5,000x top win. The sequel, meanwhile, has 6/10 volatility and a 30,000x maximum prize.

Final Verdict on Raging Rex 2 Slot

Raging Rex 2 isn’t a dramatic change versus the first game. However, it does offer enough to avoid being a complete clone.

First off, Raging Rex 2 pays more than the original. If you need one reason to try the follow-up, then let it be the 30,000x top payout. The Jurassic Mayhem bonus option is also new to the series. Therefore, you get one more choice when deciding your bonus route.

Assuming you like Raging Rex, then you’ll get much of the same with the sequel. Again, the big differences are Raging Rex 2’s bigger jackpot, lower volatility, and extra bonus option. Both games are solid, but we like Rex 2 just a bit more thanks to the higher win potential.
