We didn’t realize that Play’n GO would be making a Merlin-based series when they released Rise of Merlin in 2019. This developer then dropped Lord Merlin and the Lady of the Lake in 2020. Now, they’re back with another installment in Merlin and the Ice Queen Morgana.
We’ve enjoyed the first two games in this series. We’ll discuss if Lord Merlin and the Lady of the Lake is also a worthwhile slot in the following review.
This game offers a common Play’n GO format with 5 reels and 10 paylines. It delivers wins when three or more matching symbols land in a payline, beginning with reel 1.
As for the backstory, Merlin is searching the world for his apprentice Morgana. The latter fled Camelot in a fit of jealously after her brother, Arthur, was coronated.
During his journey, the wizard comes upon the evil Ice Queen’s kingdom. He comes to find out that Morgana has transformed into the Ice Queen. Merlin must now overlook his friendship with Morgana to defeat the unsavory form that she’s taken.
The setting is the Ice Queen’s fortress. It features a snow-covered wall, drawbridge chains, and torches. You visit a new part of the fortress when triggering the bonus. This section looks similar, albeit with a shorter wall in the distance.
The lowest-paying symbols include medieval-looking royals (A-10). Higher pays consist of a cauldron, Merlin, spellbook, and ring.
Merlin pays the most among this group at 250x the stake for five symbols. You can win as much as 20,000x your stake when accounting for features.
Morgana/Ice Queen acts as the wild symbol. She substitutes for regular pays and also delivers her own wins worth up to 250x the stake.
You can bet between €0.10 and €100 per spin. This betting range creates jackpots going from €2,000 (0.1 x 20,000) to €2 million (100 x 20,000).

Free spins come with the added bonus of a randomly chosen expanding symbol. The expanding icon can either be a royal or high pay.
If the expanding symbol is a high pay, then it’ll expand so long as 2+ instances of that icon land. Assuming it’s a low-paying royal, then it’ll expand when 3+ instance of it land on the reels.

Merlin and the Ice Queen Morgana offers the same high-quality graphics as Rise of Merlin and Lady of the Lake. It also has the same basic 5-reel, 10-payline setup.
The bonus round is also similar to the other two games. It offers free spins with a randomly selected expanding symbol.
Where Ice Queen Morgana differs, though, is the win potential. It offers up to 20,000x your stake, versus 5,000x for Rise of Merlin and 10,000x for Lady of the Lake. Assuming you like chasing huge wins, then you’ll appreciate the change.
This game doesn’t deviate much from the rest of the Merlin series. Depending how you feel about these games, though, you might welcome the lack of changes.
Everything from the format to the bonus round remain the same when compared to the other slots. The only subtle changes include a win multiplier and higher win potential. The 20,000x max prize is even more enticing than the 10,000x max in Lord Merlin and the Lady of the Lake.
