Play’n GO has turned Reactoonz into quite a series with four games. You can now make that five thanks to Gargantoonz. The latest game is an attempt to keep the series going six years after Reactoonz dropped.

Pros and Cons of Gargantoonz

Gameplay and Atmosphere

Gargantoonz slot features 7 reels and 7 rows (7x7 grid) with cluster pays. You need at least 5 matching symbols in a cluster to score wins.

All winning symbols vanish from the reels, enabling symbols from above to fall into their empty positions (a.k.a. cascading reels). Cascades continue until no more winning combinations are possible.

As for the atmosphere, Gargantoonz is another outer space adventure with cute, big-eyed aliens. We don’t notice many visual differences between this slot and the previous ones, although that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

Payouts and Max Win Potential

Low-paying symbols consist of various one-eyed aliens, while the higher pays include several two-eyed aliens. The highest-paying alien delivers up to 1,500x the stake for an 18+ cluster. You can count on wild symbols helping form wins by substituting for regular pays.

The Gargantoonz max win is 7,000x the stake when accounting for features. This max payout is above average compared to the industry, but it ranks much lower than the 22,000x mammoth payout in Dr Toonz.

Discharge

A non-winning spin can randomly produce 4-8 Quantum Wilds, at which point the round will be re-evaluated for wins.

Fluctuation

A one-eyed alien is randomly picked to “fluctuate” in each round. If the fluctuating symbol appears in a win, it leaves behind 1-2 Quantum Wilds after exiting the grid through cascading reels.

Experiment Charger

Winning symbols charge the Experiment Charger so long as no experiments are currently taking place. You need 20 symbols to fully charge the meter, at which point you’ll unlock a randomly chosen experiment. If that experiment is successfully completed, then you unlock another. This sequence continues until you’ve completed all 3 experiments.

An experiment begins with unique wilds going onto the grid, while all wilds on the reels transform into the same wild symbol. During an experiment, only wilds contribute to the Experiment Charger. You need 40 symbols to charge the meter and another 40 to overcharge it, at which point the Gargantoonz multiplier increases by +1.

Experiments

You can unlock three experiments, including the following:

• Supernova – 3-5 wild symbols land on the reels. Wilds appearing in winning combinations will count the symbols in their wins, then move 1 position diagonally on cascades. Once the cascades are over, wilds will move 8 positions in any direction while picking up symbols for the Experiment Charger. 3+ wilds in a cluster exit the grid immediately to charge the grid and release their experiment.
• Black Hole – 4-6 wilds appear on the grid. Wilds that are part of winning combos will count the symbols in their clusters and remain sticky until further wins. Once cascades are finished, the wilds pick up adjacent symbols for the charger. Symbols count once if they’re taken by an experiment wild. 3+ wilds in a cluster leave the reels immediately to release their experiment.
• Gamma Ray Burst – Puts 7-9 wilds on the grid. Winning wilds count symbols in their clusters, then remove all instances of these symbols. The symbols that are collected count once and leave the reels to charge the Experiment Charger.

Gargantoon Charger

Every successful experiment adds to the Gargantoon Charger (starts at 1x) by +1. You trigger the Gargantoonz feature by completing all 3 experiments. This feature happens in the following steps:

• 8 regular Gargantoon Wilds (1x1) land on the grid and marge whenever they’re part of a win.
• Merged regular Gargantoon Wilds grow to 2x2.
• Merged 2x2 wilds become 3x3 Gargantoon Wilds.
• The Gargantoon Wilds have multipliers, and a single multiplier will apply to a winning combination if there are multiplier wilds in the cluster.

Comparison to the Reactoonz Slots Series

This series includes Reactoonz, Reactoonz 2, Dr Toonz, Gigantoonz, and now Gargantoonz. Here’s a look at how these games compare:

Final Thoughts on Gargantoonz Slot

Reactoonz was revolutionary when it came out in 2017, offering an impressive combination of features and originality. Play’n GO has been trying to recreate that winning formula ever since with the subsequent releases.

We wouldn’t say Gigantoonz is the game that restores this franchise to its early glory. It is a solid cluster-pays game with some interesting features. The wilds and experiments come together to create plenty of action. However, we noticed that this action quite often does not translate into serious wins.

This isn’t to say that Gargantoonz is not a fun grid slot, because it is. However, it sometimes feels like many random features thrown together that don’t translate into much.

You may appreciate this game if you’ve enjoyed the previous Reactoonz slots. Gargantoonz slot is also good for any grid/cluster pays lover. Just don’t expect this game to be the second coming of Reactoonz.
