Riddle Reels: A Case of Riches is a 3-reel, 9-line slot from Play’n GO. It follows Sherlock Holmes’ and Watson’s attempts to crack a murder mystery.
This slot looks basic at first glance due to a simple gameplay model. However, it does have some features that spice up the action. We’ll cover the features and other relevant aspects in this Riddle Reels review.
Riddle Reels A Case of Riches features a 3x3 grid with 9 fixed paylines. Winning combinations form when matching symbols land in a line.
At a time when many new slots feature Megaways or cluster pays, the base game takes a simple approach that’s similar to fruit machines. That said, you may appreciate a breather from the more-complicated setups coming out today. But the bonus round, which is covered latter, does add some complexity to the matter.
The background plants you in a dark and seedy London backstreet. This location is presumably where the murder investigation takes place.
The symbols, such as a lead pipe, noose, and suspects, make this slot feel like the boardgame Clue. Assuming you like the mystery genre, then you should appreciate this game’s atmosphere.
Low pays consist of weapons, including a knife, noose, pistol, and lead pipe. High-paying symbols consist of suspects, including a woman in purple, woman in black, man in a green suit, and man with a cane.
The latter pays the most among regular icons at 12x your stake for a winning combination. You can win up to 5,000x your stake when accounting for features.
This slot offers three different wild symbols—all of which substitute for other icons to help form wins. Two of the wild symbols offer 2x and 3x multipliers. Assuming two or more wild multipliers help create a win, they add together up to a maximum of 27x.
You can wager between €0.10 and €100 per spin. Autoplay gives you the ability to make the reels spin automatically with your selected stake.
The Riddle Reels A Case of Riches RTP is 96.22%. However, online casinos can request lower payback. That said, you should check the pay table to see what RTP you’re facing.
Play’n GO rates the volatility right down the middle at 5/10. Fans of huge wins and high volatility may be a little disappointed by the mild win potential. The 5,000x maximum payout, though, is at least decent compared to other slots.
You trigger a Respin by landing two scatter symbols on the reels. The two reels with scatters lock into place while the third reel respins. This process can help you get a third scatter and, subsequently, the bonus round.
Assuming you don’t get that elusive third scatter, then the Mystery feature triggers. The latter sees each of the two available scatters cover their respective reel and turn into either a weapon or suspect symbol.
You earn free spins by landing three scatters anywhere on the reels. This event brings up a boardgame with 14 spaces.
Each space on the board features a clue. You start with one clue and can find four more (five total) by advancing on the board. The goal is to find fresh clues during each turn.
A dice rolls four times and moves you 1-6 spaces with every roll. Each space/clue that you land on reveals 1-3 free spins and one of the following bonus modifiers:
You need to get 1, 2, or 4 winning spins during the bonus to find a clue. Afterward, you’ll receive clue points that count towards the Clue Point Wheel meter.
If you’re able to fill the meter following 4 dice rolls, you’ll get a Mega Spin. The latter refers to a spin where one wheel is full of wilds (regular or multiplier), and the other two reels feature a weapon or suspect. The bonus automatically retriggers following the Mega Spin.
Assuming you don’t fill the meter after 4 rolls, the Clue Point Wheel feature happens. The Clue Point Wheel spins to give you another chance at a Mega Spin.
Riddle Reels is a dichotomy of sorts in that it offers a really simple base game and complicated bonus structure.
You’ll have no trouble mastering the 3x3 grid, payline format, and basic features (e.g. respins). However, the Clue-style bonus round can, at first, feel like a mystery that only Sherlock can solve.
We’d like to see a gradual progression in complexity from the base game to bonus round. Nevertheless, the boardgame and free spins definitely add something to this slot once you do understand them.
Riddle Reels: A Case of Riches is worth checking out—especially if you like mystery tales. Just be prepared for a complex bonus system if you do play it.
