Launched in 2019, Golden Glyph was an instant hit thanks to its stunning graphics and large maximum payout (13,185x). Not surprisingly, Quickspin has chosen to capitalize on this success by releasing Golden Glyph 2.
The sequel promises even bigger win potential with max payouts worth up to 29,500x the stake. It offers heightened features to pump up the wins. You can read about these changes along with what else Golden Glyph 2 has to offer in the following review.
A key theme throughout this review is that Quickspin hasn’t upset the original winning formula too much. Case in point, Golden Glyph 2 brings back the same 7x7 grid with cluster pays. Winning combinations form when clusters of 5+ matching symbols form.
The background is one notable change from the first Golden Glyph to the second. The scene switches from an overview of an Egyptian city, pyramids, and Nile River to a temple in the Sahara Desert.
Golden Glyph 2’s backdrop shows the entrance of a desert temple, obelisks on both sides, sand, and mountains. An armed man on a camel is also visible on the left side.
It was a near-impossible task for the sequel to trump the original game’s city/pyramid scene. Golden Glyph 2 doesn’t quite accomplish this task either.
However, it still features an excellent background under any normal circumstances. We also like how it presents a much-different setting than the first game. Overall, Quickspin has once again done a good job with the atmosphere.
Low-paying symbols include an Ankh, eye, serpent, and water waves. High-value pays include Horus, a pharaoh, and a queen.
Horus delivers the most among this bunch at 150x your stake for a cluster of 15+ symbols. Again, you can win as much as 29,500x the stake with features included.
A “W” acts as the wild symbol. It substitutes for regular pays to help complete winning clusters of 5+ symbols or more.
You can wager between €0.20 and €100 per spin. This betting range creates potential jackpots ranging from €5,360 (0.2 x 29,500) to €2,950,000 (100 x 26,800).
The Golden Glyph 2 RTP is 96.09%, which is a shade above average. If you use one of the feature buy options, RTP rises to between 96.3% and 96.6%.
Quickspin rates the volatility at 4/5, which is higher than the first game’s 3.5/5 rating. The high volatility is no surprise when considering how the sequel provides bigger wins.
Again, Quickspin didn’t tinker with the core of this series too much. However, it has modified some features and even added new ones to boost win potential. You can look forward to avalanches, Power Glyph Power-Ups, and free spins with wild multipliers.
Just like the first slot, this one offers avalanche payouts too. Winning symbols vanish from the reels and create open positions.
Icons from above fall into the empty spaces and allow for more potential wins. Avalanches continue until no more wins are possible.
Any time that you form a win with a Power Glyph symbol included, you’ll activate a Power-Up. As for the Power Glyph symbols, they behave like a wild and substitute to help form payouts.
You can see the next-available Power-Up in the special row featured underneath the main 7x7 grid. Assuming you land multiple Power Glyph symbols in a winning cluster, then each modifier will happen in order.
The first 6 Power-Ups are made up of golden scarabs and/or “Patterns of Horus.” The seventh-and-final modifier is always a Gigantic Wild. You can see how each of these Power-Ups function below:
You trigger 7 Golden Free Spins by landing 3+ pyramid symbols anywhere on the grid. A Golden Glyph Wild appears at the start of this bonus. It remains on the grid and shifts to new positions following every free spin.
The Golden Glyph Wild is special because it comes with a win multiplier. This multiplier starts at 1x and increases each time the wild helps form a paying cluster. It can reach a maximum of 50x.
Additionally, you can add extra Golden Glyph Wilds through Power-Ups. Up to 4 of these wilds can be on the reels during the bonus.
Every Golden Glyph Wild that lands after this results in +1 free spin. You can also retrigger +5 free spins with three or more pyramid scatters.
When 2 or more Golden Glyphs appear in the same winning cluster, their multipliers will multiply each other. If you get a 4x and 6x Golden Glyph Wild in a win, for example, you’ll benefit from a 24x multiplier.
You can use feature buy (not available in the UK) to automatically trigger the bonus. The three different options include:
Both of these slots feature a 7x7 grid with cluster pays ranging from 5 to 15+ symbols. They also take place in the same region and offer the avalanche feature.
As for the differences, Golden Glyph 2 ratchets up the volatility and potential wins. Volatility has increased from 3.5/5 to 4/5, while the maximum payout moves from 13,185x to 29,500x.
It also modifies or changes some Power-Ups that are available in the first game. For example, the Golden Scarab is more potent in the sequel. Meanwhile, a Gigantic Wild replaces Blaze of Fire, which removes symbols vertically and horizontally.
The first game’s Golden Glyph Wild is extremely powerful, offering up to a 99x win multiplier. However, the second slot delivers twice the win potential because up to four Golden Glyph Wilds are possible in the bonus.
Furthermore, you don’t need to trigger free spins through the Power-Up row. Instead, you just land scatter symbols like with most slots.
This series started with a bang after Golden Glyph introduced players to a Power-Up bar and Golden Glyph multiplier wild. The second edition certainly keeps up the momentum thanks to more features and volatility.
Golden Glyph 2 doesn’t offer quite the atmosphere of the first game. Nevertheless, the original’s background is a tough act to follow.
Everything else about Golden Glyph 2, though, adds improvements to the series. The fact that you can get up to 4 multiplier wilds on the bonus reels simultaneously is exciting. As mentioned before, you also trigger Golden Free Spins through scatter symbols instead of the Power-Up row this time around.
Golden Glyph 2 is a high-quality slot no matter if you’ve played and love the original. However, it becomes even more enticing when you’re already a fan of the first game.
