Blueprint Gaming has started an interesting trend where they take classic online slots and turn them into Megaways games. Case in point, they’ve released Eye of Horus Megaways.
Originally from Merkur Gaming, this six-reel slot puts a traditional spin on the ancient Egypt theme. The only differences include Megaways and an extra reel. We’re going to discuss whether these upgrades make Eye of Horus worthy of the modern slots world.
Not much has changed from the original Eye of Horus in terms of atmosphere. The old game features faintly visible pyramid walls in the background.
Blueprint’s version adds streaking lights to make it seem like you’re moving towards a mystical power. The animations are also flashier than what’s seen in the older version.
The original game has a standard 5x3 setup with 10 paylines. Eye of Horus Megaways features six reels, with each reel having the potential to reach five spaces.
Herein lies the biggest change from the 5x3 to Megaways format. You can potentially have 15,625 ways if all six reels expand to five spaces.
The 15,625 ways aren’t as impressive as some of the 117,649 ways games we’ve seen. However, they still offer many winning possibilities.
This slot also features cascading reels. With this feature, symbols from winning combinations vanish and allow icons from above to fall into their places. Not only can you continue forming more payouts this way, but you’ll also increase the reel heights with consecutive wins.
Blueprint retained all of the symbols from the first game. These icons include Horus (sky god), the Eye of Horus, a temple, jackal, scarab, eagle, Ankh, and royals (A through 10). If you’ve played other Egyptian-themed slots, you should be very familiar with these symbols.
The Eye of Horus offers the largest standard payout at 20x your bet for six symbols. The highest-possible prize is worth 10,000x your stake when bonuses are included.
Return to player (RTP) for Eye of Horus Megaways is only 95.02%. This is below the online gaming industry average of 96% payback.
You can bet anywhere from €0.10 to €10 per round. The €0.10 spin cost is rather cheap when considering that you can unlock up to 15,626 ways to win.
Expanding Wild – Horus is the wild symbol and will substitute for everything except the pyramid (scatter). The sky god also expands to fill whatever reel he appears in.
Free Spins – You trigger 12 free spins by landing three or more pyramids anywhere on the reels. During free games, the Horus wild can upgrade wins to a higher-value symbol. This wild also awards additional free spins.
Scatter Payouts – In addition to triggering free spins, the pyramid awards scatter prizes worth up to 100x your stake.
You should like Eye of Horus Megaways if you: a) enjoy Megaways games, and/or b) are a fan of Merkur’s original Eye of Horus version. Blueprint has done a good job of bringing this slot to the present with a new format, better animations, and an extra reel.
However, you might not appreciate this game if you’re tired of the ancient Egypt genre. After all, such slots are all over the industry these days.
As long as this isn’t the case, though, then you should give Eye of Horus Megaways a chance. It adds some fun, new twists to a classic.
