In 2014, Play’n GO launched Gemix as the slots answer to the hit mobile game Candy Crush. Seven years later, it’s finally releasing a sequel in Gemix 2.

Candy Crush mania has died down for the most part. Therefore, colorful grid slots aren’t as common as they were several years ago.

Can Play’n GO still rekindle the same magic they had with Gemix in 2014? Thanks to a few notable changes, which we’ll cover below, Gemix 2 slot does have a chance of being a bigger hit.

Gameplay and Atmosphere

This slot features 7 rows and 7 columns, thus creating a 7x7 grid. You earn wins when clusters of 5+ matching symbols form vertically, horizontally, or both.

Like many grid slots, Gemix 2 has an avalanche feature. The latter removes winning symbols from the grid and allows icons from above to fall into their vacant spaces.

Avalanches continue until no more winning clusters are possible. They not only help you score more wins in each round but are also key to triggering certain features.

As with the original Gemix, this game happens in a fairy tale world full of enchanting castles and gem-filled caves. It takes you throughout different places in the kingdom as you unlock bonuses.

The beginning setting is a blue sky with white fluffy clouds sprinkled throughout it. From here, you can travel to a crystal cave, a beautiful countryside, and more.

Gemix 2 Max Win, Payouts and Symbols

Symbols include 8 different types of gems, which vary based on their colors and shapes. As mentioned before, you’ll need to land clusters of 5+ matching symbols to collect wins.

The orange star is the highest-paying symbol, offering up to 200x your stake for 15+ icons. You can win as much as 7,500x the stake when including features.

RTP, Volatility and Betting Options

The betting range runs from €0.10 to €100 per spin. With the €100 max wager, you can win as much as €750,000 (7,500 x 100).

The Gemix 2 RTP is 96.26%, which is above average. Play’n GO rates the volatility at 9/10, putting this game in the high range.

Gemix 2 Features

You’ll see a charge meter on the right side of the screen. This meter is key to triggering a couple of Gemix 2’s bonus features, including Crystal Charge and Super Charge. You can also look forward to other features too, such as World Bonus and World Wilds.

Crystal Charge

You fill the meter by landing 25+ winning symbols during a single round. After filling the meter, you’ll benefit from one of the following four Crystal Charge modifiers:

• Chain Lightning – A lightning bolt connects two corner symbols. All symbols that are hit by the lightning will transform into one of the corner icons.
• Crystal Warp – One symbol is randomly chosen and all instances of it “warp” into other symbols.
• Light Beam – One symbol fires light beams across the grid, transforming different symbols into itself.
• Nova Blast – One symbol explodes and transforms adjacent icons into itself.

Super Charge

If you fill the meter with 50+ symbols, then you’ll unlock Super Charge. This feature delivers all 4 modifiers along with a 2x win multiplier.

Each time that you retrigger Super Charge, the multiplier increases by another 2x. The win multiplier can go as high as 20x (requires 9 retriggers).

World Patterns & World Bonus

Certain positions are highlighted in blue. These positions become yellow when they’re part of winning combinations.

The goal is to clear all highlighted tiles that make up the World Patterns. After clearing two World Patterns, the gnome will appear onscreen.

You need to select one of gnome’s 2 coat pockets. The hope is that you choose the one with the World Bonus. Four potential World Bonuses exist, including the knight, miner, princess, and wizard lands.

World Wilds

The whole point of triggering the World Bonus is to unlock World Wilds. This feature sees one or more of the 4 characters appear randomly during play.

The character whose world you’re in will show up first. If you’re in the miner’s land, for example, then he’ll be the first of the four to appear.

Each character delivers a different type of wild. Here’s a look at what’s available through each:

• Knight – Adds up to 2 Mega Wilds, which come with multipliers.
• Miner – Delivers up to 10 wilds on the grid.
• Princess – Adds wilds that can spread from edge to edge.
• Wizard – Offers up to 5 sticky wilds.

How Does This Game Compare to the Original Gemix?

You won’t notice much difference between this slot and the original when it comes to appearances. Gemix 2 has the same style of fantasy graphics and candy/gem looking symbols.

This game also has the same type of features, including Crystal Charge, World Pattern, World Wilds, and Super Charge.

Gemix 2 does differ, though, in the value of regular payouts. Again, the star is the highest-paying icon at 200x for 15+ symbols. Gemix, meanwhile, offers 1,000x for its highest-paying symbol.

Nevertheless, Gemix 2 has a higher overall payout at 7,500x your stake. The first game, meanwhile, tops out at 4,500x the stake.

The reason why Gemix 2 offers better win potential is due to the Super Charge multiplier. This multiplier tops out at 20x, versus just 3x in the original.

The addition of the knight and his world is one more difference. Gemix, in contrast, only features the miner, princess, and wizard.

Final Thoughts

Gemix 2 is a perfect case of if it’s not broke, then don’t fix it. Play’n GO retained many elements of the original Gemix and only added small modifications.

They waited long enough to where most players won’t notice that only small changes have been made. Of course, we’re not complaining that Gemix 2 largely uses the fame formula.

The main change we’re happy with is the heightened win potential. This game’s 7,500x top payout is above average, versus Gemix’s slightly below-average 4,500 top prize.

If you like the first Gemix, yet want more volatility and bigger wins, then Gemix 2 should suit your tastes. It’s an entertaining game that sees you move through different worlds and work towards lucrative bonuses in Crystal Charge, Super Charge, and World Wilds.
