Rich Wilde seemingly exited the stage when his daughter, Cat, took over as star of Play’n GO’s Wilde series. However, Rich has decided to grab his leather jacket and head to Egypt for yet another adventure.
Rich Wilde and the Amulet of Dead is a 5-reel, 10-payline slot that mixes an old expanding symbol feature with a new “Thoth Multiplier.” As a result, this game isn’t just a cookie-cutter Wilde game. You can see everything that Amulet of Dead has to offer in the following review.
If you’ve played either the Rich or Cat Wilde slots before, then you’ll be very familiar with the setup to this one. Amulet of Dead spreads 5 reels and 10 lines across a 5x3 grid.
You need 3+ matching low-paying symbols or 2+ high-paying icons to form wins. Per usual, winning combinations must begin in the first reel.
This adventure isn’t the first time that the Wilde series had headed to Egypt. Therefore, it was imperative that Play’n GO switched things up with the atmosphere.
They’ve done so by placing this game outside one of the famed Abu Simbel temples. Built by Ramesses II, the large temple features four massive statues of Ramesses. The version in Amulet of Dead contains slightly modified statues.
This slot also boasts the quality graphics that have become typical of Play’n GO. Overall, Rich Wilde and the Amulet of Dead is a good-looking game.
Low pays include royals ranging from A through 10. High pays include Anubis (jackal), Horus (falcon), King Tut, and Rich Wilde.
The star of this game pays the most among regular symbols at 100x for five. You can win up to a maximum of 2,500x your stake when including features.
Thoth, who has an ibis head, is a wild symbol that appears on reels 2, 3, and 4 only. He substitutes for regular pays to create winning combinations and is key to a feature (covered later).
The betting range runs from €0.10 to €100 per spin. The Rich Wilde and the Amulet of Dead RTP is 96.29%, which is above average.
Play’n GO rates the volatility at 7/10. We’re surprised that the volatility is even this high when considering the smallish max payout of 2,500x.
If you’ve played any Rich Wilde game, then you’ll be well-versed in the free spins w/ expanding symbols. The Thoth Multiplier, however, presents a new wrinkle.
A Thoth wild that appears stacked in any of the middle three reels will trigger a Thoth Multiplier. This feature offers one of the following win multipliers based on how many stacks land:
Thoth Multipliers are available in both the main game and free spins. They apply to the overall win—not just wins they help form—when triggered.
You trigger 10 free spins when landing 3+ Amulets of Dead (scatter) anywhere on the reels. One random regular symbol is chosen to become the expanding symbol.
The expanding symbol will cover its respective reel only if it can help form a winning combination. Payouts for expanding symbols vary based on the specific icon involved. Rich Wilde pays the most, while Q through 10 pay the least.
Expanding symbols don’t need to appear in adjacent reels to deliver wins. Instead, they can pay even when separated by one or more reels. If you land an expanded Horus in reels 1, 4, and 5, for example, then you’ll still receive a payout.
The list of Rich and Cat Wilde slots is growing. Just recently, Play’n GO released Cat Wilde and the Eclipse of the Sun God. Eclipse of the Sun God takes place in a South American jungle and offers cascading reels, win multipliers, and free spins.
Of course, you can’t discuss the Wilde saga without bringing up Book of Dead. Arguably the most-famous game of the series, Book of Dead relies heavily on free spins with expanding wilds.
Most of the other games in this series are the same as Book of Dead—only with a different setting. Amulet of Dead, much like Eclipse of the Sun God, at least differs slightly from the other Wilde slots in terms of features.
We can’t say that Rich Wilde and the Amulet of Dead is markedly different from other games in this series. However, it does just enough to warrant a sequel.
The Thoth Multiplier is a new addition that offers up to a 5x win multiplier for three stacked wilds. This, combined with the expanded wilds, can be a powerful combination.
Unfortunately, the combo isn’t too powerful. Amulet of Dead’s win potential is capped at 2,500x your stake, which is below Play’n GO’s average of 5,000x. If you’re looking for bigger wins, then you should try Rich Wilde and the Shield of Athena (10,000x max).
In summary, Rich Wilde and the Amulet of Dead is a fine slot in terms of graphics and features. It keeps the same winning formula as the previous games—only with less win potential.
