No shortage of Thor-themed online slots are available throughout the gaming industry. Thor’s brother, Loki, often appears as a minor character in such games.
This time around, however, the God of Mischief takes center stage in Tales of Asgard: Loki’s Fortune. Judging from the title, developer Play’n GO is likely planning an Asgard-themed series. We’ll discuss if this game sets the stage for a potentially high-quality series.
Loki’s Fortune features a 5x5 grid with 3,125 ways by default. As you’ll read later, though, the number of winning ways can increase to 100,000.
Winning combinations happen when three or more matching symbols land in adjacent reels. All wins must begin in reel 1 and travel to the right.
This slot takes place in Loki’s modernized throne room. It includes typical Asgardian architecture along with a large window overlooking the kingdom. Loki sits with a Sceptor in his hand to the right side of the reels.
Tales of Asgard Loki’s Fortune comes equipped with a detailed backstory. The God of Mischief is angry that Thor is about to become king of Asgard. Loki is doing his best to prevent Thor from being crowned while trying to become king himself.
Low-paying symbols include four runic carvings. Mid pays consist of a horse, raven, serpent, and wolf.
High-paying icons include Thor and Odin—the latter of which pays up to 2x the stake for five symbols. You can win up to 20,000x your stake with considering features.
Loki acts as the wild symbol and substitutes for other icons to deliver wins. He also offers payouts of his own worth as much as 2x the stake.
You can bet between €0.10 and €100 on each spin. This wagering range creates jackpots beginning at €2,000 (0.1 x 20,000) and going up to €2 million (100 x 20,000).
The Tales of Asgard: Loki’s Fortune RTP is 96.2% by default. You should always check the pay table, though, because Play’n Go lets casinos select lower payout percentages if desired (e.g. 91.20%).
The volatility rating is 8 out of 10. We’re surprised that the volatility isn’t even higher when looking at the maximum payout of 10k the stake.
Unlike many slots with grids and increasing ways, Loki’s Fortune doesn’t rely on an expanding grid. Instead, it uses a system of splitting Mystery Symbols. You can also look forward to random modifiers and free spins.
Initially, Mystery Symbols land as unhelpful blocker icons. However, they transform into the same regular pays once a wild symbol lands on the grid.

The split variety boosts your ways to win. Again, you can unlock as many as 100,000 ways.
Provided you fill the entire grid with Mystery Symbols, then the symbols won’t need a wild to transform. Instead, they’ll change into the same paying symbol automatically.
Loki doesn’t just sit on his throne doing nothing the entire time. Instead, he can randomly activate one of the following 3 modifiers on any spin:
You need to land three or more scatters (emerald) on the grid to trigger free spins. You’ll receive 8, 12, or 20 free spins for three, four, or five scatter symbols.
These free games offer the benefit of more Mystery Symbols and wilds landing. However, they don’t provide any scatters, meaning the bonus can’t be retriggered.
This isn’t Play’n GO’s first trip to Asgard. Play’n GO has produced plenty of similar slots, such as Odin Protector of Realms and Faces of Freya. However, these slots are similar in theme only.
Odin Protector of Realms is a 7-reel slot with a grid shaped like a honeycomb. It has similar random modifier features like Loki’s Fortune, but its other bonuses are different.
Faces of Freya is a simpler 5-reel, 20-payline game. Its features include four different types of free spins.
As for win potential, Tales of Asgard Loki’s Fortune definitely wins out here. It offers a 20,000x max prize, versus 5,000x for both Odin and Freya.
Play’n GO has gone off the beaten path with Loki’s Fortune. In doing so, they’ve resisted the urge to add yet another Thor-related slot to the industry.
The result is largely a success. This game offers an entertaining Mystery Symbols mechanic along with enough other features. The win potential (20k the stake) is also quite impressive.
The only thing we’d really change is to add something new to the free spins. As it stands, you only get a higher frequency of wilds and Mystery Symbols.
Outside of this small complaint, though, Tales of Asgard Loki’s Fortune is a more-than-solid game. We recommend that you check it out—especially if you’re tired of always seeing Thor as the main character.
