ELK Studios hasn’t taken long to capitalize on the popularity of Pirots. After releasing the original in March 2023, ELK is already back with Pirots 2. If you’re not familiar with this series, Pirots follows a group of pirate parrots (hence Pi-rots).
Players really took to this unique angle on pirates. After all, you can only play so many online slots about traditional buccaneers before the concept gets old. Let’s discuss if ELK Studios has recaptured the magic from the first game in this Pirots 2 review.
Pros
Cons
This game starts with a 6x6 grid, which can grow to 8x8 through features. Its payout mechanic revolves around a collection system, whereby four birds (blue, green, purple, red) collect amber symbols colored the same as themselves. Birds can switch spots if they’re adjacent and could form more symbol clusters when switching.
If 3 or 4 birds are lined vertically or horizontally, they battle and, while doing so, cause all coins, collection scatters, Eggs, Red Buttons, and ambers to disappear from the grid. After the fight is over, new birds redrop and symbols refill.
We personally like the unique and complex way that Pirots 2 delivers wins. However, this payout system requires a learning curve and can be confusing at first.
As mentioned before, Pirots 2 features a fresh take on the pirate genre. It opens with an introduction video, where the Pirots discuss how they’re going to grab rum from a dinosaur amusement park. ELK Studios has really gone the extra mile to set up a cool backstory. This game’s colorful graphics and entertaining animations only ramp up the excitement.
Different-colored amber symbols pay out according to their level, which maxes out at Level 7 for each color. They start paying 0.05x to 0.1x the stake at Level 1, and they’ll advance to 10x to 50x the bet at Level 7. As briefly covered before, birds collect amber until they can’t hold anymore.
The Pirots 2 max win is 10,000x the stake, which is the same as the original slot. This max payout ranks above average compared to other modern online slots.
The Pirots 2 RTP is 94%, which is below the industry average. ELK Studios continues its trend of offering lower payout percentages.
The betting range runs from €0.20 to €100 per spin. As covered later, you can use X-iter betting options to unlock features immediately.
Volatility is high due to the plentiful features and large max payout. By comparison, the first Pirots has a medium-to-high rating.
The Pirots 2 features revolve around a collection meter, special symbols, and free spins. Here’s a closer look at these extras and how they can boost your wins.
A meter sits atop the reels and tracks how many amber symbols and wild symbols have been collected. It continues filling until the birds can’t hold anymore. At this point, a special symbol releases onto the grid. You can unlock up to 3 special icons at a time.
Once a feature symbol releases, it also changes some of the amber icons into random special symbols. Additionally, special icons can fall on the grid without the releasing aspect. Here are the available feature symbols:
You trigger 5 free spins by landing 3 scatters (dinosaur skulls) anywhere on the reels. The bonus begins with the current number of collected symbols and current grid size. Pending special symbols release at the beginning of free spins. You’ll trigger more free spins by landing another 3 scatters.
You can buy features anytime through the following X-iter options:
Pirots 2 slot is mostly the same as its popular predecessor Pirots with only a few minor changes. Its 6x6 starting grid is slightly larger than the first game’s 5x5 opening grid. The sequel has high volatility versus medium-to-high for the original. Pirots 2 also adds a few more special symbols compared to its predecessor.
ELK Studios is one of the best developers at tweaking sequels just enough to add new wrinkles, while not ruining what made the previous game a success. It has pulled this feat off once again with Pirots 2. You get the same original theme, only with some added extras.
Pirots 2 slot provides feature symbols, including Egg, Mushroom, Popcorn, Red Button, and Upgrade All. The result is higher volatility and more-frequent explosive wins than the original. The high volatility doesn’t lead to a bigger max win, but we’ll still take 10,000x the bet.
The increased volatility does come with long rounds that don’t always pay off. You may find yourself watching the mechanic unfold for a while, only to come away with a rather insignificant payout.
Pirots 2 takes some patience to get into. If you’re willing to deal with the drawn-out rounds, then you should find this to be an entertaining game. The theme, graphics, and features make for an entertaining session. Therefore, we recommend that you give Pirots 2 a try.
