Nolimit City has provided so many hit slots in recent years that their new releases are always hotly anticipated. Misery Mining is the latest hot Nolimit City game to come out. As the name suggests, this isn’t some lighthearted Disney-style mining game. It’s about a rugged, one-eyed dwarf who’s breaking rocks in search of gold.
This slot is a quasi-follow-up to Fire in the Hole xBomb, which has become famous for delivering huge wins. Is Misery Mining destined to become legendary like Fire in the Hole? You can find out in the following review, which covers Misery Mining’s gameplay, win potential, RTP, features and more.
Each spin begins with a 3x3 grid and 27 ways to win. The rest of the positions are darkened until you unlock them. Assuming you open up the entire 7x7 grid, you’ll enjoy 823,543 ways. This setup feels like how a miner must clear rocks before opening up more of the cave.
You earn wins by landing 3+ symbols in adjacent reels, beginning with the first active reel. Symbols include royals (A-10), a compass, dwarf, liquor bottle, and pipe. The dwarf pays the most out of this bunch at 16x the stake for seven matching symbols. You can look forward to payouts worth as much as 70,000x the stake.
The betting range runs from €0.20 to €100. The Misery Mining RTP is 96.09% by default, but it can dip to 94.05% based on casino operator preferences. The volatility is high, but you can essentially choose volatility during the bonus round.
This slot has no shortage of features, including everything from Collapsing Mine to a detailed free spins bonus.
This feature is Misery Mining’s version of cascading reels (a.k.a. tumbling reels). However, Collapsing Mine works slightly different to cascading reels. It kicks off whenever an xBomb symbol explodes. This explosion causes the grid to move one row/reel in the direction of the explosion. Assuming the explosion occurs in the middle of the grid, then all sides will move out by one spot.
A collapse can also happen when an xBomb blows up during a non-winning spin. Additionally, it can occur if 1-2 scatter symbols land.
This wild symbol substitutes for all regular pays to create winning combinations. XBomb wild symbols also remove adjacent regular symbols and boost the win multiplier by +1.
Scatter symbols turn into xBombs, blow up, open the grid, and increase the win multiplier under the following conditions:
You trigger Misery Free Spins when landing 3 scatters anywhere on the grid. You can choose from among the following two bonuses:
Misery Spins feature scatters and super scatters in the open portion of the grid. Both types of scatter symbols move to random positions in the beginning of each round. Meanwhile, the bottom row is locked to start and reels 1 and 7 act as symbol collection areas.
The top of the grid features enhancer symbols. When enhancers land above regular or super scatters, they provide any of the following perks:
You can unlock the bonus round through four different options:
Misery Mining may not be the official sequel to Fire in the Hole, but it’s really close. Both games have similar themes with the xBomb concept. The dwarves may be one in the same, or at least from the same tribe.
Some differences come in the number of ways and win potential. Misery Mining offers slightly higher wins (70,000x) on paper than Fire in the Hole (60,000x). It also provides significantly more potential ways (823,543) than its predecessor (46,656). The features are also a bit unique from each other, with Misery Mining’s bonus offering more special symbols.
This slot breaks the mold regarding gameplay. Nolimit City has created a deeper version of cascading reels, one where the grid expands rather than just symbols disappearing. You don’t have to trigger or buy the bonus just to enjoy this game. We enjoyed not feeling like we were simply waiting for free spins—as opposed to with some online slots.
Of course, the bonus is much appreciated. You can opt for two different styles of bonuses, including the traditional Mouse Spins or the volatile Rat Mode.
All in all, Misery Mining is yet another topnotch slot from Nolimit. It has the unique gameplay, features, and win potential to be worthy of playing for hours.
