Produced by NetEnt, Finn’s Golden Tavern is a slot that’s played on a 5x5 grid. It’s the sequel to the 2017 release Finn and the Swirly Spin.
The latter introduced a spiral spin mechanism to the gaming world. Many players who’ve tried this slot appreciate the format.
Finn’s Golden Tavern brings back the same setup in a new environment. Let’s discuss whether this game lives up to the 2017 hit release.
This slot takes place on a tavern table. The table features a compass, candle, and sword surrounding the reels.
Finn’s Golden Tavern also has a pirate element to it. This is evidenced by the treasure map behind the reels and shouts of “ahoy matey” after certain wins.
We’re not sure what this theme has to do with the first game. The latter revolved around Finn playing his flute in the Irish countryside.
Again, the gameplay is based on a 5x5 grid with spiral-based wins. The symbols go around the swirl until exiting the reels in the middle.
If you were a fan of this mechanism in the first game, then you’ll be happy that it’s back. Assuming you’re new to it, then you may be slightly frustrated when trying to learn it.
Wins are formed when you get a cluster of three or more symbols in horizontal or vertical lines. You can also look forward to cascading reels, where winning icons disappear and allow new symbols to take their places.
The symbols mainly revolve around different types of alcohol containers and gold coins. The latter pay out the value of their markings. For example, the coin marked “50” offers the highest regular payout at 50x your stake.
Two more symbols include a star and treasure chest. The star is wild and substitutes for every icon except the treasure chest (scatter).
No info is given on the absolute highest payout that you can receive in this game. We assume that the max win lies somewhere around 1,000x when examining the top prizes and features.
You can wager between €0.10 and €500 per spin. The €500 max bet is massive and should more than satisfy high rollers.
The Finn’s Golden Tavern RTP is 96.1%. This payout percentage is average compared to the industry. This game’s volatility is pretty low. You can expect to win around one out of every five spins.
The bonuses in this slot include two random features and free spins. The random features include:
First Slam – On losing spins, a random coin can move into a new space to offer a guaranteed payout.
Random Coin – When the treasure chest is in the final loop near the center, it can turn change low-paying icons (alcohol containers) into coins.
You trigger free spins by getting the treasure chest in the center space within a single round. You’ll receive five free spins and a multiplier.
The compass on the left shows the size of your multiplier. You increase the multiplier by 1x for every five wild symbols that you get in the bonus.
By landing the treasure chest in the center space during free games, you’ll also unlock the Coin Bonus. This feature delivers a random number of coins onto the reels if cascading reels fail to produce a win.
The Finn series is either something that you’re a fan of or not. If you like the spiral format and NetEnt’s Irish character, then you’ll probably appreciate this sequel.
However, Finn’s Golden Tavern doesn’t quite live up to the original. The atmosphere isn’t as impressive as the first game. We also don’t understand how Finn has gone from playing his flute in the Irish countryside to opening a pirate-filled tavern.
As long as you’re not expecting an upgrade over Finn and the Swirly Spin, then you should be fine with the sequel. Finn’s Golden Tavern isn’t a great game, but it’s at least playable.
