In partnership with Reel Kingdom, Pragmatic Play has really been expanding on their Big Bass series lately. They released a sequel, Bigger Bass Bonanza, in August 2021. Now, just a few months later, they’re back with Bigger Bass Bonanza Megaways.
As the title implies, Reel Kingdom and Pragmatic Play are making use of the latter’s Megaways license. We’ll discuss if the extra ways are a bonus in the following review.
This 6-reel slot can feature between 324 and 46,656 ways. A display in the upper right-hand corner shows how many ways are currently active on any given spin.
Reels 1 and 6 hold between two and six symbols. Reels 2 through 5 hold between two and five symbols. A 1x4 row sits above these middle four reels. This setup combines to offer up to 46,656 ways (6x6x6x6x6x6) in the ideal scenario.
The original Big Bass Bonanza game takes place in an isolated part of the ocean. Bigger Bass Bonanza, meanwhile, happens in more of a tropical destination.
The Megaways version returns to the series’ roots, with its background being almost identical to the original slot. The only differences include minor variations in the underwater coral and seaweed.
We’re actually bigger fans of Bigger Bass Bonanza’s tropical setting. Nevertheless, the Big Bass Bonanza Megaways atmosphere doesn’t take anything away from the action.
Symbols include low-paying royals (A-10), a dragonfly, fish, fishing bobber, fishing rod, and tackle box. The fishing bobber pays the most among this bunch at 50x your stake for six symbols. You can win up to 4,000x your stake when including features in the mix.
A wild symbol can appear in the 1x4 row only. It substitutes for all regular pays to help deliver winning combinations.
You can wager between €0.20 and €100 per spin. This betting range allows for jackpots going from €200 (0.2 x 4,000) to €400,000 (100 x 4,000).
The Big Bass Bonanza Megaways RTP is 96.70%, which is really good. However, Pragmatic Play does give casino operators the chance to choose settings of 95.66% and 94.62%. You might want to check the pay table to avoid the latter payout percentages.
Pragmatic rates the volatility at 5 out of 5. We’re a little surprised at the high volatility when considering that the win potential isn’t exactly off the charts.
Reel Kingdom/Pragmatic have done a good job of adding features on top of what was already available in the previous games. Now, you can look forward to cascading reels, a Dynamite feature, and a Bazooka bonus. The fish collection system and free spins return from the previous slots in this series.
Winning symbols disappear and leave vacant spaces. Icons from above fall into these empty positions and can potentially offer more wins. This effect continues until no more winning combinations can form.
You trigger the bonus round by getting at least 3 scatters on the reels. You’ll receive 10, 15, or 20 free spins for three, four, or five scatters.
During this bonus, the fish don’t disappear from the reels when they’re part of wins. They instead fall to the bottom of the grid while cascades are taking place.
Assuming a fisherman and fish land at the same time, then the angler collects every onscreen value associated with the fish. These values will add up to a prize for you.
The fisherman symbols collect in a meter on the side. You’ll receive +10 free spins and activate a multiplier for every 4 anglers that you collect.
The multiplier begins at 2x on the first trigger and then goes to 3x (second retrigger) and 10x (third). You can’t retrigger free spins after the third time.
During free spins, Dynamite or Bazooka can trigger when 1-2 fisherman symbols are onscreen with no accompanying fish. The Bazooka blows up all of the symbols except from the fisherman. The Dynamite adds fish symbols to the grid in random positions.
Big Bass Bonanza Megaways adds quite a bit that wasn’t available in the previous two slots. It boasts the Megaways engine, cascading wins, and the Bazooka and Dynamite features.
These additions make for a more action-packed adventure. However, they don’t exactly create the possibility of much-larger wins.
The win potential for Big Bass Bonanza Megaways is 4,000x the stake. By comparison, it equals Bigger Bass Bonanza and is higher than Big Bass Bonanza (2,100x).
Big Bass Bonanza kicked off this series with a fun fisherman’s theme and an entertaining collection system. Bigger Bass raised the win potential from 2,100x to 4,000x, which was sorely needed.
Now, Big Bass Bonanza Megaways increases the available ways and adds more features to the equation. Whereas the previous games offer 10 and 12 paylines, the Megaways variation boasts up to 46,656 ways.
Cascading reels, Dynamite, and Bazooka are all welcome additions to the series. They create more action and ramp up the entertainment factor.
We were hoping that Reel Kingdom and Pragmatic Play would up the win potential in this game. Instead, Big Bass Bonanza Megaways merely matches Bigger Bass at 4,000x your stake.
Nevertheless, the Megaways version is worth a look if you’re into this series. It brings a lot more to the pond in terms of features.
