Wild West Gold Megaways features 6 reels and up to 117,649 ways to win. Each reel can house between 2 and 7 symbols. You’ll benefit from the full 117,649 ways when all reels have 7 symbols in them (7x7x7x7x7x7). Wins form when matching symbols land in adjacent reels, starting with reel 1.
This game takes place in a dusty western town during the Gold Rush era. The town features typical Old West buildings and a gunslinging culture. Wild West Gold’s bonus takes place at night and shows a full moon and numerous stars in the sky.
Regular symbols include royals (A-10), gold, a gun, and four gunslinging characters. The highest-paying character delivers 1x the stake for six matching symbols. You can win up to 5,000x your stake, which is down from 6,750x in the original game.
Landing on reels 2-5 only, a Sherriff's badge acts as the wild symbol. It substitutes for regular symbols to form wins and can also randomly have a multiplier (discussed later).
You can bet between €0.20 and €100 per spin. This slot also offers an Ante Bet option, which, for 25% extra, increases the odds of scatter symbols landing.
The Wild West Gold Megaways RTP is 96.44%, which is high compared to other online slots. You should check the pay table, though, because operators can request lower payback. Volatility is 5/5, which seems high compared to the moderate 5,000x max win.
The features remain mostly the same from the first slot to Wild West Gold Megaways. This means more multiplier wilds and free spins with sticky wilds. Bonus buy is the one new edition to the series.
Each wild symbol can randomly feature a win multiplier worth 2x, 3x, or 5x. Assuming two or more wild multipliers appear in a win, they’ll multiply each other. If you get 2x and 5x wilds in a payout, for example, the multiplier will be 10x.
You trigger 7 free spins by getting 3+ scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. You’ll receive a scatter payout worth 4x, 20x, 100x, or 500x the stake for three, four, five, or six triggering scatters.
Free spins come with the added benefit of having wilds become sticky after they land. They remain on the reels until free games end. The wilds can also change size when the number of symbols in their respective reels change. You’ll re-trigger 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6 free spins by getting another two, three, four, five, or six scatters.
You can buy the bonus at any time for 100x the stake. Doing so automatically causes between 3-6 scatter symbols to land and slightly increases RTP to 96.45%.
Not much has changed from Wild West Gold to the Megaways edition—other than the Megaways of course. Wild West Gold Megaways has a 6-reels setup with up to 117,649 ways. The regular edition, meanwhile, offers 5 reels and 40 paylines.
The Megaways game’s main changes include a lower maximum win and the feature buy option. We don’t know why Pragmatic Play dropped the max payout from 6,750x to 5,000x, but they did.
Wild West Gold Megaways is mainly an excuse to put out a Megaways edition for a popular slot. It doesn’t change much nor have a particularly dynamic setup.
We’re not saying that Wild West Gold Megaways isn’t an entertaining game. It’s a solid western slot with some interesting features. It doesn’t, however, quite justify a re-release of Wild West Gold.
The biggest disappointment is the 5,000x top prize. Most studios increase the win potential when putting out a Megaways re-release. Pragmatic made the puzzling decision to nerf the max payout, though, which dims the excitement.
If you really like Wild West slots and Megaways, then you might find this game worth a short session. However, Wild West Gold Megaways isn’t exactly a gold standard on how to do a re-release.
