Developed by Yggdrasil Gaming, Valley of the Gods 2 is a six-reel slot that features up to 20,160 ways. It serves as a sequel to Yggdrasil’s 2017 hit release, Valley of the Gods.
The original game has become popular thanks to its quality graphics and unique setup. Valley of the Gods 2 promises more of the same. You can read about the sequel below along with how it measures up to the original.
Valley of the Gods 2 features six reels and a default 1-2-3-4-5-2 grid. This setup starts you off with 240 ways, and you can unlock as many as 20,160 ways.
The grid features scarab blocker tiles at the beginning of a round. You must get wins to break up the tiles and unlock more positions and ways.
20,160 ways are available when you’ve opened the entire grid. The format resets to 1-2-3-4-5-2 at the start of a new round/spin.
Wins form when three or more matching symbols land in adjacent paylines. All payouts must start in the first reel and move from left to right.
The first Valley of the Gods also features adjacent wins with blocker tiles. However, the sequel presents a much different format than the original game’s 5x5 grid.
The background offers a typical Ancient Egyptian scene, complete with pyramid columns, palm trees, and sand. While the setting is cliché, Yggdrasil has certainly done a solid job on the graphics and design.
Low pays consist of royals ranging from A through 9. High-paying symbols include Anubis (jackal), Bastet (cat), Horus (eagle), and Sobek (crocodile).
Bastet pays the most among this group at 20x your stake for six symbols. You can win up to 6,423x your stake when accounting for features.
Valley of the Gods 2 doesn’t offer a standard wild symbol. However, as we’ll cover later, it does boast wild reels as a feature.
You can wager between €0.25 and €125 per spin. This game also comes with autoplay and max bet options.
The Valley of the Gods 2 RTP is 96.3%. Volatility sits at medium-to-high, but the hit rate is fairly low at 17.7%. The low hit rate is mainly attributed to how reel 1 only contains one symbol at the beginning of each round.
As mentioned before, you must get a win to start breaking up the scarab blocker tiles. The number of winning symbols determines how many tiles are removed.
Each winning combination triggers a free respin. Assuming you collect another payout, then you’ll earn yet another respin. This process continues until you fail to pick up any more wins.
Once you break all of the tiles, you’ll receive an extra life (explained later) and activate three collection meters. The latter refers to when different-colored scarabs fly off of winning symbols and into the various meters. You receive the following for each type of scarab:
A wild reel appears in a random reel. It stays in place either until the respins end or the next winning combination occurs.
Assuming you fail to win on a respin, then an extra life gives you another chance at netting a payout. This process continues until you run out of lives, at which point the grid resets and a new round begins.
Valley of the Gods is so well-designed that it remains popular today. However, the sequel is an even better game.
The two slots are fairly similar in terms of high-quality graphics and a worthy Ancient Egyptian setting. Valley of the Gods 2 offers improvements, though, in terms of more winning ways and new features (e.g. wild reel).
Yggdrasil has accomplished what every developer hopes for with a sequel. They’ve improved upon a classic without changing too much of what made the original so great.
The only notable downside is the frustratingly low hit frequency. With only one symbol available in the first reel, you’ll experience many complete losses on spins.
Once you do get the ball rolling with a win, though, you’ll open more ways and have a chance at big payouts. Therefore, Valley of the Gods 2 has extra appeal if you enjoy volatile games with large potential wins.
