The Demon Code is a 6x6 grid slot that revolves around an underground cavern filled with spooky demons. It marks NextGen Gaming’s first attempt at a grid-based game.
The first thing that jumps out about this slot is its colorful imagery and light-hearted take on demons. We’ll discuss whether this combination translates into a winning formula below.
The Demon Code features six reels and six rows (6x6 grid). The grid can grow as high as 6x12 during the bonus round (covered later).
Wins happen when 4+ matching symbols form a cluster going vertically and/or horizontally. Symbols from winning combinations disappear and allow new icons to take their places (a.k.a. cascading reels). The cascading reels effect continues until no new payouts can form.
The clusters also feature a win multiplier that begins at 1x. This multiplier increases +1 following each cascading win, and it continues rising in the base game until the round ends.
Demon Code’s title may suggest a sinister theme. However, NextGen has opted for a playful take on these monsters.
While the background is dark and ominous, the symbols and demons are quite colorful. You’ll also see plenty of entertaining animations during features.
Low-paying symbols consist of four diamond-shaped boxes. High pays include gems with decorative elements to them.
The highest-paying gem delivers 50x your stake for a cluster of 25+ symbols. You can win up to 12,500x your stake when including features.
A wild symbol (marked “W”) substitutes for all regular symbols to form wins. It doesn’t offer any prizes on its own.
The betting range runs from €0.10 to €20 per spin. Autoplay allows you to keep the reels spinning with your betting preferences in place.
The Demon Code RTP is 96.26%. The volatility is high due to the large maximum win and plentiful features.
During cascading wins, four talisman symbols can randomly appear and trigger one of the following Demon Summon features:
The Enter the Void feature triggers when cascading reels don’t deliver a win, but one or more wilds are on the grid. This bonus removes wilds and regular symbols next to them so that new icons can fall into place. With luck, you’ll earn a win and trigger cascading reels again.
The scatter (evil-looking eye) goes into a collection meter whenever it hits the reels. You trigger free spins if 4+ scatters are collected during cascading reels. Every scatter beyond four adds +2 free spins.
Scatter icons continue going into the collection meter during this bonus. If +4 scatters are collected, you’ll receive another +2 free games and add an extra row to the grid.
You can unlock up to 12 rows in total (6x12 grid). Once the grid hits the maximum height, you’ll receive +10 free spins.
The scatter collection meter disappears at this point. Since you can’t get extra rows on the 6x12 grid, you’ll receive +2 free games for every additional scatter that lands.
The win multiplier doesn’t reset during this bonus and can grow to an unlimited size. Furthermore, the multiplier increases by +1 every time that +4 scatters go into the collection meter.
NextGen Gaming might be new to grid slots, but they’ve definitely nailed their first effort. The graphics, animations, and features combine to create an entertaining game.
The Demon Code does a nice job of spreading the features out in the base game and bonus. Therefore, you’re not just left waiting to trigger free spins until something good happens.
Instead, you can look forward to both cascading reels, a win multiplier, and Demon Summon features during the main game. Of course, you’ll definitely be excited when you do trigger the bonus.
Free spins come with extra rows, additional free spins, and a win multiplier that doesn’t reset. You can win up to 12,500x your stake thanks to these enhancers.
You might find the volatility maddening at times due to so much payback being wrapped up in features. As long as you can deal with the volatility, though, then you should consider giving The Demon Code a try.
