Developed by Push Gaming, Nightfall is a 5-reel, 20-payline slot that has a hybrid vampire-demon feel. It takes place in an old European city and has an eerie feel to it. Given that Push Gaming has developed light-hearted slots like Fat Rabbit, we’re not used to this side of them.
This game spreads 5 reels and 20 paylines across a 5x3 grid. You earn wins by getting 3+ matching symbols in a line, starting with the first reel. You’ll also notice numbers sitting atop the reels. As we’ll cover later, these digits represent instant payouts and prize multipliers.
Nightfall takes place in a European town with gothic architecture. The base game graphics are pretty solid thanks to churches, houses, and rivers in the background. Unfortunately, the bonus round doesn’t offer quite as much detail. It turns most of the screen red, which doesn’t really help the atmosphere much.
Symbols include low-paying card suits and abstract demon pictures. The female demon pays the most among this bunch at 1,000x the stake for five symbols. You can win up to 20,000x your stake when accounting for features.
You can bet between €0.10 and €100 per spin. The best Nightfall slot RTP is 96.36%, which is above average. However, online casinos can request RTP as low as 88.43%. The volatility is medium to high, whereas we expected high volatility due to the big 20,000x max win.
Nightfall pushes the win potential through a wild-scatter symbol, cascading reels, fireballs, fireball multipliers, and free spins.
Symbols from any win disappear from the board and leave empty positions. Icons fall from above to fill these spots and give you more chances at winning. This cascading effect continues until no more payouts are possible.
A Fire Orb serves as both the wild and scatter—similar to “Book of” slots. It will substitute for any symbol, except the Fireballs, to create winning combinations.
A Fireball symbol lands and then quickly moves into one of the numbered spots above the reels. When three fireballs land in a numbered spot, they deliver an instant prize. You can win anywhere from 2x to 5,000x the stake through Fireball symbols.
A Fireball Multiplier features multipliers ranging from 2x to 50x. They multiply the value of the instant payout in their respective numbered spot (again, above the reels).
You trigger 6 free spins when landing at least 3+ Fire Orbs. You’ll also receive a scatter payout worth 5x, 50x, or 1,000x the stake for three, four, or five orbs.
During this bonus, only scatters, Fireball symbols, and Fireball Multiplier symbols land. Additionally, the instant payout spots above the reels remain constant and don’t change after spins. You can retrigger +2 free spins after landing another 3+ scatters.
You can purchase free spins for 113.5x your stake. The free spins come with 96.17% RTP, which is slightly less than the default 96.36% base-game RTP.
Push Gaming’s Fat Drac is the first game that comes to mind regarding comparisons. It’s not as dark as Nightfall, but it still deals with a cartoonish vampire and his ghoulish friends. Thunderkick’s Baron Bloodmore is another game that closely resembles Nightfall’s theme. The key difference, though, is that Baron Bloodmore is mostly vampire-centric, as opposed to Nightfall’s demon mixture.
Push Gaming has developed some of the most-notable slots in recent years, including Razor Shark and Jammin’ Jars. Nightfall doesn’t seem like it will land among these Hall of Famers, but it’s still a solid game.
We like the unique system of Fireball instant prizes and multipliers. You can score big prizes when you’re able to get three Fireballs in a numbered spot. However, you might feel tortured for the many times when you only land two Fireballs and miss out.
The graphics and atmosphere are pretty good, but they don’t quite separate Nightfall from the pack. We’re not big fans of how the bonus round looks either.
Overall, though, Nightfall slot is a playable game with high win potential. You might consider trying this game just for the intriguing Fireball features alone.
