Developed by Yggdrasil, Easter Island 2 is a six-reel slot that offers between 25 and 55 paylines. It’s the sequel to the mildly popular Easter Island. The latter dropped in 2018 and remains relevant today. We’ll cover whether Easter Island 2 surpasses its predecessor in the following review.
Easter Island 2 spreads six reels and four rows across a 6x4 grid. 25 paylines are available by default, but this amount grows to 55 through expanding reels (covered later).
You earn wins by getting matching symbols in lines. All payouts must begin in the first reel and travel left.
The first Easter Island is set on the famed Chilean island out in the Pacific Ocean. Home to the Moai statues, it carries a certain mystical quality that has made it legendary.
With Easter Island 2, the Moai are either on their own island’s beaches or taking a vacation. We lean towards the latter, given that the background features a touristy look.
You’ll see sand, small buildings, palm trees, a lifeguard chair, and umbrella in the background. Two statues—both dressed in beachwear and sunglasses—stand on each side of the reels.
We give Yggdrasil credit for coming up with a fresh new background for the series. They’ve seamlessly transitioned the statues from their native area to a vibrant beach.
Low pays consist of stylized card suits, including a club, diamond, heart, and spade. High-paying symbols include statues of a purple snake, orange fox, red bird, and teal fish.
The bird pays the most among regular icons at 2x your stake for six symbols. You can win up to 2,500x your stake when accounting for features.
A golden owl serves as the wild symbol and substitutes for other icons. However, it only appears through a specific feature that we’ll cover later.
You can wager between €0.25 and €300 per spin. The maximum bet is three times higher than what’s available with most slots. We imagine that the max bet is cranked up to compensate for the low win potential.
The Easter Island 2 RTP is 96.0%, which is in line with the industry average. Volatility sits in the low-to-medium range, and the hit frequency is 16.3%.
If you’ve played the first Easter Island, you’ll recognize most of the sequel’s features. Everything starts with the Symbol Swap Respin. Colossal Blocks and expanding reels serve as modifiers for the respins.
The Symbol Swap Respin makes its return in the sequel. They trigger whenever you form a winning combination.
With low-paying wins, all other low-pay icons are replaced by the winning symbol before the respin happens. The same action occurs with high-paying wins as well.
Some slots allow you to retrigger respins by winning. In this game, however, you only receive one respin regardless of the outcome.
This feature is the newest addition to the Easter Island series. It activates whenever you get a payout with 4+ symbols.
The ensuing Symbol Swap Respin includes larger symbol blocks and even wild symbols. Everything depends upon the exact size of your win.
Here’s a look at what you can expect with Colossal Blocks:
This game begins with a 6x4 grid. However, it features a 6x8 grid when you activate the expanding reels.
This 6x8 grid increases the paylines from 25 to 55. It also gives you the ability to land more Colossal Blocks within the same respin. You could potentially get two 4x4 blocks thanks to the expanded grid.
Easter Island made waves after its 2018 release thanks to a quirky and somewhat comedic theme. It presents the mystifying Easter Island in a light-hearted manner.
This slot also offers between 27 and 103 paylines, which should satisfy those who like a decent amount of winning ways.
The sequel doesn’t offer as many lines nor the famed setting. However, it does present one more feature (Colossal Blocks), which makes the respins more interesting.
Easter Island has never been a blockbuster, but it’s popular enough to warrant a sequel. The follow-up does a good job of advancing the series while still retaining much of the original charm.
Easter Island 2 also provides an extra modifier for the respins. You’ll now benefit from expanding reels and Colossal Blocks after triggering a respin.
Yggdrasil could’ve gone further with the features and win potential (2,500x). A traditional bonus in addition to the respins would’ve been nice. As for maximum wins, neither slot gives you the opportunity to break the bank—unless you’re playing for max stakes.
If you’re looking for a slot with mega wins and high volatility, then Easter Island 2 isn’t it. Assuming you’re in the mood for something different, and/or like the original game, then you should give this slot a chance.
