Play’n GO must be having success with the Charlie Chance series. They’re back again with another game in this line called Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra.
As the name implies, Charlie finds himself hunting for treasure in Egyptian tombs. Unfortunately for him, he’s encountered the wrath of the undead Cleopatra.
Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra is different from the Hell to Pay and XreelZ slots before it regarding gameplay. It’s a 6x6 grid game with cluster pays.
You earn wins when forming clusters of 5+ matching symbols. Clusters can grow up to 15 symbols or more.
Curse of Cleopatra presents the same 1920s black-and-white vibe as the other slots. You’ll see a black-and-white Cleopatra on the right-hand side along with a tomb setting in the background.
Egyptian-themed slots are a dime a dozen in the gaming world. Curse of Cleopatra does a nice job of setting itself apart from the many similar-themed games.
Regular symbols consist of a mixture of hieroglyphics and godlike designs. The highest-paying symbol offers up to 500x your stake for a cluster of 15+ symbols. You can win up to 5,500x the stake when accounting for features.
Charlie acts as a “Mega Wild” and will substitute for regular pays to create wins. He becomes available through certain modifiers (covered later).
You can wager between €0.20 and €100 per spin. This betting range allows for jackpots starting at €1,100 (0.2 x 5,500) and going up to €550,000 (100 x 5,500).
The Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra RTP is 96.25% by default. However, it can be much lower depending upon what an online casino requests. You should check the info screen to ensure that you’re dealing with the 96.25% version.
Play’n GO rates the volatility at 6 out of 10. This medium volatility setting is lower than what most Play’n GO slots offer.
This slot has tumbling reels along with a bonus round that’s loaded with modifiers. You’ll also benefit from a win multiplier that can really pump up payouts.
Symbols from winning clusters disappear and give away to symbols falling from above. Tumbling reels continue until no more payouts are possible.
A win multiplier is active in both the base game and bonus. It begins at 1x and increases by +1 after three consecutive tumbling-reel wins.
The multiplier maxes out at 3x during the base game and resets in between spins. It can go up to 10x and doesn’t reset in between spins during the bonus round.
You trigger 8 free spins by getting 3 scatter symbols anywhere on the reels. All additional triggering scatters add another +4 free spins to your total. Any scatter that lands during the bonus will provide another +1 free game up to a maximum of 150.
You can look forward to three different random modifiers in this bonus. The modifiers include:
Curse of Cleopatra is quite similar to Charlie Chance XreelZ and Charlie Chance in Hell to Pay in terms of atmosphere. All of these games revolve around Charlie and his black-and-white adventures to some fearful place.
As mentioned before, the 6x6 grid is new for this series. Hell to Pay features 3 reels and 5 paylines, while XreelZ has 5 reels and 243 ways to win.
Hell to Pay offers more random features during the base game and bonus. XreelZ, meanwhile, mainly relies on free spins with multipliers. Curse of Cleopatra is mostly about free spins with random modifiers.
As for win potential, Charlie Chance XreelZ offers up to 20,000x the stake. Hell to Pay and Curse of Cleopatra have more-modest top wins of 6,666x and 5,500x, respectively.
Curse of Cleopatra is a nice addition to the Charlie Chance series. It offers a new setting, different features, and a grid setup.
If you’re a fan of cluster pays, then you’ll appreciate the new gameplay model. You might also like the free spins, which are loaded with a win multiplier and three random modifiers.
The downside to this game is that it offers the lowest win potential of the series. However, a 5,500x max payout is still solid in the overall scheme of gaming.
Weighing the good and bad, Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra is definitely worth checking out. It’s especially worthwhile if you’ve played and like any other games in this series.
Charlie Chance and the Curse of Cleopatra was released on September 30 2021.
