Developed by Inspired Gaming, Centurion Megaways is a six-reel slot that offers up to 117,649 ways. It’s a remake of Inspired’s previous hit, Centurion, and revolves around a fictional Roman soldier named Maximus Winnus.
Centurion gained attention for its fun theme and exciting features. We’ll discuss whether adding the Megaways engine takes this series to a new level.
Centurion Megaways features six reels and anywhere from 324 to 117,649 ways. The ways to win are determined by how many symbols each reel holds.
Reels 1 and 6 can offer between two and seven symbols. Reels 2 through 5 hold between two and six symbols.
A horizontal row with four positions runs across these reels. Assuming every reel features six rows, then you’ll enjoy 117,649 ways (7x7x7x7x7x7).
Payouts form when matching symbols land in adjacent reels. Symbols from winning combinations disappear and allow icons from above to fall into their places (a.k.a. cascading reels). Cascading wins continue until no more payouts are possible.
Moving to the atmosphere, Centurion Megaways is virtually unchanged from the original version. The only thing that looks noticeably different is the reel setup.
The background offers a cartoonish depiction of a Roman town. You’ll see carpeted steps leading up to the reels and a temple in the background. Maximus Winnus hides in the bushes and occasionally pops out.
Low pays consist of royals ranging from A through J. High-paying symbols include the Colosseum, a chariot, coin, game logo, helmet, and sword.
The logo pays the most at 50x your stake for five symbols. You can win up to 12,500x your bet when accounting for features.
A golden laurel wreath serves as the wild symbol. Appearing only in the horizontal row, it substitutes for all other icons to help form winning combinations.
You can wager between €0.20 and €20 per spin. Gameplay options include turbo mode, left-hand play, and autoplay.
The Centurion Megaways RTP is 95.9%, which is a shade below average. The volatility rates high due to a large maximum payout (12,500x), several features, and the Megaways.
As mentioned before, Maximus Winnus hides in the bushes throughout much of the game. However, he does jump out to blow his trumpet and deliver random features. When Winnus does so, you’ll enjoy one of the following bonuses:
Maximus Winnus acts as the scatter symbol. He triggers a Bonus Wheel when landing three or more times anywhere on the reels. The more triggering scatters you land, the higher your chances of getting one of the more-lucrative features.
You can gamble one of the lower-tier features for a better bonus. Assuming you lose the current feature, then you’ll at least collect a cash prize. The Bonus Wheel offers the following features:
Prizes on Parade and Super Prizes on Parade represent the first bonuses on the wheel. Both feature three soldiers holding shields that display either arrows, collect, or prizes.
A light moves across the shields. You choose when the light stops in hopes of landing it on the desired prize.
Arrows advance you to the next shield, where you have an opportunity to earn better rewards. “Collect” ends the bonus and sees you take whatever you’ve earned by that point.
Prizes on Parade offers anywhere from 10x to 43x your stake on the cash prize. Super Prizes on Parade delivers between 18x and 65x. You can unlock Caesar’s Free Spins on the third shield in each bonus.
Speaking of which, Caesar’s Free Spins and Super Caesar’s Free Spins are the next features on the wheel. The former offers between 6 and 12 free spins along with a starting win multiplier ranging from 1x to 3x.
Super Caesar’s Free Spins deliver between 8 and 16 free games as well as a multiplier ranging from 1x to 5x. Cascading reels increase the multiplier during these bonuses. You can retrigger either set of free spins by landing three or more scatters on the extra reels.
